FCC Planner

Fluid Catalytic Cracking (FCC) Planner – Heavy Refinery Experience

  • Location: Toledo, OH
  • Duration: 6-7 Months (Through the end of 206)
  • Work Schedule: 5x10's until TAR
  • Per diem available

Position Summary

The FCC Planner is responsible for planning, coordinating, and optimizing maintenance, inspection, and turnaround activities for the Fluid Catalytic Cracking Unit (FCCU) and associated systems within a heavy refinery environment. This role ensures safe, reliable, and cost‑effective execution of work while maintaining compliance with refinery standards, safety regulations, and operational requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop detailed maintenance and turnaround job plans for FCCU equipment, including reactors, regenerators, cyclones, slide valves, air blowers, wet gas compressors, fractionators, and associated piping systems.
  • Create job scopes, work packages, and schedules for routine maintenance, corrective repairs, and TAR activities.
  • Coordinate closely with Operations, Engineering, Inspection, Reliability, and Construction to define work priorities and execution strategies.
  • Review inspection findings (API 510/570/571/579) and translate recommendations into executable maintenance plans.
  • Prepare equipment-specific job plans including labor estimates, material take‑offs, tooling, scaffolding, insulation, refractory, and special access requirements.
  • Support FCC‑specific work such as:
    • Reactor and regenerator internals inspection and repair
    • Cyclone replacement and alignment
    • Slide valve maintenance
    • Refractory and expansion joint repairs
    • Coke-handling system work
    • Wet gas compressor and air system maintenance
  • Develop and maintain logic schedules and integrate plans into refinery TAR and weekly schedules.
  • Coordinate with Supply Chain to ensure materials, catalysts, and specialized services are available when required.
  • Participate in pre‑job walkthroughs, constructability reviews, and risk assessments.
  • Ensure work plans comply with PSM, MOC, LOTO, confined space, hot work, and refinery safety standards.
  • Support execution‑phase troubleshooting and provide planning support during outages and turnarounds.
  • Capture lessons learned and continuously improve FCC planning standards and job templates.

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required (Associate or Technical degree preferred).
  • 7–15+ years of refinery maintenance or planning experience, with significant time dedicated to FCCU operations.
  • Demonstrated experience planning work in heavy, conversion‑unit refineries.
  • Strong knowledge of FCC process equipment, metallurgy, and damage mechanisms (erosion, sulfidation, high‑temperature corrosion).
  • Proficiency with CMMS systems (SAP PM, Maximo, or equivalent).
  • Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, isometrics, equipment drawings, and vendor manuals.
  • Strong interpersonal and coordination skills across multiple disciplines and contractors.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior FCC turnaround planner experience.
  • Working knowledge of API 510, API 570, API 571, API 579, and refinery inspection practices.
  • Experience coordinating refractory, catalyst, and specialty FCC contractors.
  • Familiarity with critical-path scheduling tools (Primavera P6, MS Project).
  • Experience supporting owner/operator refinery planning teams.

  • Ability to anticipate execution challenges and proactively mitigate risks.
  • Clear communication skills for coordination with operations, engineering, and field crews.
  • Detail‑oriented with a strong focus on safety, quality, and schedule adherence.

Work Environment

  • Refinery field and office environment.
  • Must be able to wear full PPE, access elevated structures, and work during TARs and unit outages.
  • Extended hours and on‑site presence required during turnarounds.
